The Mainz-pattern gladius is an earlier Imperial Roman sword with a long, powerful point and slightly waisted blade. It takes its name from swords found around Mainz on the Rhine. You may have heard of the Sword of Tiberius from the same area.
 
The broad, double-edged blade narrows down to a strong point, making it ideal as a close-combat sword. Descriptions from archeology emphasize the thrusting role of the weapon. If you own a later version of a Roman sword, our Gladius is a great way to include earlier chapters of Roman history to your collection.

Our Gladius blade is made of 1080 high-carbon steel with a threaded pommel. The balance point is ~3.81" from the guard. This is great for authentic handling and balance.
 
It is ideal for display, collections, costumes, and reenactments. It is not an antique. Keep sharpened swords out of reach of children. Check convention and reenactment rules before packing.

How should I care for my sword?

After handling, wipe the 1080 steel blade dry and keep it indoors, away from humidity. A light coat of oil helps if you live in a damp climate. Do not store it wet in the sheath, and do not use it for striking or sparring.
